Bedroom Shower Cubicle
Has anyone got a shower in their bedroom ? But not in an ensuite .

We have been trying to decide if we should try and fit a small ensuite into our bedroom. just a shower and handbasin. we have drawn it out and I think it takes up too much room and wont leave a lot of room for wardrobes. While on holiday last week my husband suggested we could maybe put a nice walk in shower and small hand basin in the bedroom without actually builing a room around it iyswim. Its a 1920's house and he pointed out that in a lot of old houses there would have been a handbasin in the bedroom. I cant get my head round it tbh. What are your thoughts ?

I know someone with just a shower unit in the corner of there bedroom, always thought it looked abit odd really but i suppose its handy. There is an extractor but still seems abit strange. Hmm sorry not much help was i.

I have a shower, but if sort of in a cupboard. No basin or loo though. Was there when we bought the house and I've only used it a few times after my CS and I couldn't climb over the bath to have one. It is now housing a tall boy chest of drawers and a few bagso f clothes for the charity shop! I'd say if space is an issue, not to bother. If youdo though, make sure the shower is as good as the main one as ours is like being pissed on from a great height not very powerful, which is what put me off using it.

I think it would look very strange, and might get damp? Not sure I would want all the steam around my clothes.

I know someone who put a bath in their bedroom open like that...I think it would be ok as long as you had a good solution to steam/ventilation?

We would have a super duper extractor fan , so steam wouldnt be an issue. Hmm might see if I van google some pictures.

I once looked at a house for sale which had a shower cubicle in the corner of the biggest bedroom (which was smaller than yours IIRC). It did look peculiar (& the room seemed kind of damp, though I could have imagined that!)
If you have the space an actual en suite would be better

Your bedroom sounds big enough to build in an en suite and still have a decent sized bedroom. I think I'd be worried about steam, damp and puddles without some sort of room around it.

Don't do it. It sounds horrid. Bath in the bedroom is very Babbington House though.

My parent's have a holiday home that has showers in the bedrooms. They are kind of set in the Walls, so they are ignorable. The doors look like cupboard doors with frosted glass. They have extractors in the shower cubicle, so damp isn't an issue.
On cold days you can wrap yourself in a towel and leap straight from the shower to the bed. 
SIL turned a walk in wardrobe into a tiny ensuite. It had sliding doors, to save space and didn't take up much space at all.

Rather than put it in a corner could you move your bed more into your room away from the wall then build a new wall making a corridor behind your bed with your ensuite in. My neighbour did this and it looks fab (hope that makes sense).

Your bedroom sounds big enough to fit one in easily. use up some of the 21ft wall, with ensuite ot the back, with wardrobe along the same wall in front of the ensuite, iyswim. frosted sliding doors sound good to keep it light and airy looking.

I've viewed a few houses with what ends up looking like a shower in a wardrobe, and hated them each time. Don't do it

The house I live in at the moment had a shower in the corner of the main bedroom when we moved in.
I got a plumber in to rip it out as I hated it. Don'y bathrooms have to have ventilation (fans) and so on so how would that work in a bedroom? Plus surely the carpet and soft furnishings would feel damp? Weird IMO.

Collision , your link is truly fab ! Obviously my bedroom looks exactly like that already , just need to put the shower in. HerRoyal Notness , unfortunately 1 of the walls has a big window on it , and the other has a really nice fireplace on it. Cantpooinpeace. Im liking that idea , that might just work. Might have to loose a small window , but might be worth it as at the moment i cantshowerinpeace ! Thank you for all your opinions.

Back in the 70s a friend of mine had a shower in their rental flat.
It looked like a TARDIS, but with none of the desirable features.

In my friends old student flat the shower ws in the KITCHEN between the worktop + the sink.
It was a shared house.

Your bedroom is a bit bigger than mine and we'rd hopefully putting in a shower and a sink. A wall has been built across the room to creat a cupboard and an alcove for the wardrobe with a door sized opening next to it (in case we want to fit a door later. On the other side of the wall is space for a corner shower and sink. There's enough room for a Superking bed, chest of drawers, bench at end of the bed. Leaving the doorway open means some of the space behind it cam be seen (there's a window down there that does help ) so main bedroom bit doesn't feel too small.
There's a sloping roof at the other end of the bed, so putting one there wasn't an option but would be a good idea in a more normal shaped room.
